Junk Journal Ideas and Inspiration - 20 day challenge

Image
I recently completed the April 20 Day challenge over at Junk Journal Ideas and Inspiration (JJII) on Facebook.  Challenge 12 was "It takes two to tango". In my case black gesso and texture paste are doing the Tango on tea bags. Here is what I created. Left is a greeting card (or page for my junk journal) and right is a small pocket and tag for my junk journal. I loved the idea of the pocket so went ahead and created 8 more as a table gift for a table I was hosting at a local fund-raising Afternoon High Tea.  I filled them with a tea bag (I found some that had a black top) and a roll of Mentos as a sweet treat. A small flower die cut (shortened to fit size of pocket) and a small adhesive word complete the pocket. Here is the process I followed.   I opened up used tea bags that I had dried and removed the tea leaves. Tea residue I put in the compost. Using a paint brush I coloured the tea bag with black gesso and allowed to dry, of course, I was impatient and got out m...

Thank you for my present

Image
I have completed this layout for a challenge over at Soul Scrappers .  More about the challenge below. The challenge was a mystery bag challenge - and we were to be inspired by this poem we could select one of the lines, words or even the whole poem to inspire us. I selected "P" is for presents. One of the gifts I gave my great nephew at Christmas was a 'paint a birdhouse' kit.  I recently received these photos as well as a video of him painting it.  In the video he said "thank you for my present" and when his mother asked what did you learn - he said 'how to mix colours'.   Not bad for a 3 and half year old.  Inspired gift I would say. Here are some close ups of the layouts - please note that they are straight, they have buckled slightly as I used sprays on the background - I will place between a couple of books to straighten up further. I used 2 stencils from Kaisercraft - Creativity is contagious and Raindrop.  Sprays I used were Dylusions Per...

70th birthday celebrations

Image
In my last post I wrote that it was my sisters 70th birthday this week.  She has a lot of activities planned the first being an afternoon tea on 18th January with our brother and sister-in-law.  We went to Saddles, at Mt White.   I ordered the cake she wanted (and it was the most expensive cake I have ever bought!) and it was delicious.  Here is the layout I have created with her and the cake. We had this afternoon tea earlier than her birthday as our brother and sister-in-law were due to head toTasmania on holidays, however it was cancelled due to Covid restrictions at that time. So, we went ahead anyway and met up for a great afternoon tea. In my stash I found a previous watercolour and texture paste background I had created and it was just right for this layout.  The heart is a nod to the heart locket my sister is wearing.  It belonged to our mother and my sister recently had it cleaned and started wearing it again.   Yes, I did make a boo...

Alchemy, magic or serendipity

Image
Here are two cards I have made - I was amazed at the result.  Why - see below. Cards have been created using products all available from Kaszazz.  Stamps are from Destinations Collection.  The stencil is called World Map.   Alchemy is described as - a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation or combination according to web dictionary. So how is appropriate to my cards?   Let me explain my process of creating the background. Using white cardstock (CS) I sprayed Distress Oxide Inks randomly on to the CS. I then applied texture paste through the stencil.  And then the alchemy, magic or serendipity happened - I could not believe my eyes.  The texture paste absorbed the oxide inks and created the most special background that you see. When dry - cut the CS into 2 mats as my background base. The tags I created using Ranger Black Soot Oxide Ink and clear embossing powder. One in an offcut of patterned paper in the collection and one an ...

Discover and Sparkle layout

This is a layout I have created for an ad-spiration challenge over at Paper Issues (Friends and Fans) facebook page. Here is the advertisement we were to be inspired by:                                                          What did I draw from this - the water view, the umbrella and on the bottom of the ad the advertising blurb.  In my photos from our cruise to New Zealand earlier this year I had this photo of a pier on the sea wall in Napier and when I was looking for photos I was drawn to the similarity of the canopy to the umbrella in the photo.   I journaled using my Dylusions Paint Pen in white - I have usually stayed clear of this pen as it can be temperamental in letting ink out of the nib - not today so pleased. This is a clean and simple layout - I have used all products that are available from Kaszazz.  I...
