Inspired by Dr Seuss

Image
There is a challenge over at Soul Scrappers to be inspired by a book title by Dr Seuss.  Here is my layout and thanks Mitzi for a great challenge: Of course it was his 1960 publication - One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish. I have loved fishing forever - as children our family would often head off with our Dad and fish - Bobbin Head, Apple Tree Bay, The Entrance, Berowra Waters. It is in our DNA for sure!   One of the benefits of moving to Central Coast of NSW was that fishing could be just seconds away - unfortunately it seems that every time we go fishing lately it seems to rain - maybe I should head out where they need rain and try to fish!!!   I have kept this layout rather simple - nothing fancy!   The photo was taken last year during a stay in Red Rock.   I caught ZERO, NADA, NO FISH!!!  But I love the tranquility that fishing brings. What is ironic is that when I look closely at the blue pa...

Friends

Image
Here is a double page layout I completed towards the end of the weekend.  I had finished all the layouts I prepared and I was scratching around my limited supply of  papers (I bought for the weekend only a minimum amount) trying to find ones that co-ordinated with the photos.  I hand cut the leaves. This photograph of my sister (hatless) and our friends from Grafton when we did a walk along the water and bush at Red Rock, New South Wales.  It was a great walk, very quiet and we saw lots of interesting wildlife and flora.  I was inspired in part by a layout in a Simple Stories publication. Thank you for looking, Margaret :)

Fun times at Red Rock

Image
Getting my mixed media on!!! I had so much fun creating this page today.  I was wanting to use my lonely Gelatos I am sure they were feeling unused and unloved (Okay I know inanimate objects but you have to smile) when I stumbled across a You Tube video by Fiona Paltridge from May 2014.   I did Gesso the background paper before I started as past experiences with water on patterned paper have not been successful. What did I love about Fiona's layout - the washi tape border it is so reminiscent of the borders I do in my patchwork quilts and I wonder why I never thought of it before!!  I loved the layers of gesso, texture paste, gelatos and stamps. The photos where taken last year at Red Rock on the north coast of New South Wales and I had just successfully crossed a very small stream!!! on the way to the Red Rocks.  The photos are actually a mix of me going and coming back from the rocks. Thank you Fiona for your inspiration, I have left a thank ...

Run Margaret Run!!! Run Fast !!!

Image
I am getting an early start on a challenge over at Pixels and Paper .  In October we were at Red Rock, NSW and my sister and I went for a walk along the beach, soon after arriving. I stopped to look at the beautiful vistas when all of a sudden in came a wave, I saw it just in time and run for dear life!!!   My sister not so lucky she ended up standing in the water, clicking away and laughing at the same time!!! Here is a close up of the tag I made.  I used 2 blue distress stains, Antique Linen Distress stain then I sponged Antique Photo over it to get a sand like appearance.  White embroidery thread to represent the waves and some pearls and rhinestones for bling. Here is this months inspiration photo from Pixels and Paper - tell us how you were inspired by the photo.  Can you see my inspiration? I took the design aspect and created a sketch layout. I then put my 4 photos across the top.  Below the photos is my tag where the ...

Blind Scrap

Image
What is a blind scrap?  Well,  you are given a list of things needed to complete a layout and then instructions to complete your layout. This weekend Scrap Girls Retreats   hosted one that you could do at home.    The list of things/instructions needed was - 1 12" x 12" cardstock as your base 1 12" x 12" patterned paper (cut about 1/2' off and then cut into 2/34" strips) 1 9" x 4" patterned paper 3 buttons (tied, of course) 1 large die-cut or flowers 1 piece of lace or similar 1 strip for journaling alphas for title sequins for sparkle 2 x small doilies or similar Breaking of rules is okay...........I deviated by not using lace and using ric-rac and twine (lace would just not be appropriate for this layout) no flowers and no doilies but I did use die-cuts.  The paper and die-cuts are from Kaisercraft Sandy Toes range.  The photos of my sister were taken at Red Rock, NSW when we visited there in late September/early October thi...
