Stamps Ahead

Breaking records with the heat here in Australia at present, yes today is hot, hot, hot again.  Here are two layouts I completed recently for some classes I am leading for a local community group.. Inspired by a layout by the August Paper Flourishes kit. The papers are from Kaisercraft.  I have adapted for a more heritage layout. I found the great quote on the internet.  And is that not what we are as scrapbookers, preserving for future generations.  The photo is of my grandparents in the front of their home in Asquith, New South Wales in I would say the early to mid 1950's. A number of people have been asking me about how to go about doing a heritage/vintage scrapbooking layout.  Here is one I have completed today.  The photo shows my mother (centre), my maternal grandmother (left) and my paternal grandmother (right) taken on my parent's wedding day. I was inspired by a layout I saw on Pinterest by craftershome.blog. Unfortunately, the link to the layout is not current and I was unable to leave some love for the original designer, but I did leave a comment on Pinterest. Thank you goes to them. The next step was to go through my stash of papers looking for papers suitable for the layout.  As a general rule you should avoid bright colours on vintage layouts.  Also suitable embellishments - go to town you can use lace, flowers, doilies, buttons, ribbon, brads the list is endless and you can customize to suit the photo.   I found the shoe paper and immediately thought of both grandmothers as they always wore lace up stu...

As promised in earlier post, here are more layouts I completed the past weekend at the retreat. The first was a layout completed in a blind challenge where you are given the instructions for a layout but don't get to see what it looks like. Christmas 2010 These photos have been laying on my desk waiting for inspiration to put them down on paper.  I think it was the multiple colours of what we are wearing that held me back.  Finally, did the layout.  We have been friends for what seems forever. This is an photograph of my great grandmother - she died before I was born.  She was my paternal grandmother's mother.  I was going to enter this into a challenge - black and white predominately with another colour, however when I finished this layout the predominate element was the photo matt in beige - so I will create another page for the challenge later. The tree charm is a reference to our family tree.  I look at this photo and try to determine family resemblances - it's in the eyes.  Don't you just love these old photo shoots - so serious, no smiling and the foggy surrounds.  Thank you for looking, Margaret

This a page dedicated to three strong women in our family - Nana Reid (Mum's mother), Mum, Grandma Crawford (Dad's mother). The photo was taken at my parent's wedding in June, 1948 and Mum is wearing her going away outfit (yes not so long ago the just wedded changed into going away clothes that they wore as they left the ceremony on to the honeymoon). Mum made her dress and it featured pin tucks, covered buttons with fabric loops and magnificent tailoring. My scrapbooking usually focus's on the photo/s but this page just called out for some old fashioned embellishments. The background CS is black but photographed blue in today's overcast weather. The lace on the side, the buckle with tag and sticker from an old thread roll are all original. I love the Graphic 45 paper to the left with the pictures of women in their 'best' clothes. My scrapbooking style, in the most, is plain and simple. At the Sunday crop, I attended, one of the projects was a musical scrapbook page with Nina Granzien - lots of distressing, masking and glimmer. I loved it. Just need to find a photograph with something musical in it. Taking this to my own style I created a page about my grandmother (in apron), circa 1923. My father gave this photo to a local historian to put in a book about Hornsby area - and this is a photograph of the page in the book. Last night I participated in the latest cyberchallenge with The INKlings and I will be back later to post my projects and another scrapbook page I created. On a roll.
