Stamps Ahead

A layout I created for a mood board challenge at Shop and Crop Scrapbooking. Click on the link and join the Facebook Group and get involved in challenges that they will post.  This week I got an email from Splitcoast Stampers and they had a tutorial on how to complete a starburst card.  I thought why not try as a scrapbook layout.   I loved the colours on the mood board below (unfortunately the colours on my layout do not look as bright due to light when I just took the photo - I will try again in the day tomorrow).  The photograph was taken when my sister and I went to a high tea and as I stood up it was the right angle to show the entire plate of goodies. Challenge 4 was to be inspired by a layout at Words or Whatever  (WOW) and to use a WOW product on the layout.  The only WOW product that I own is a template called Lou's Flowers - here is my layout: I remember this day 22/4/96 distinctly - my Dad had just picked some of his beautiful roses and I said "I want a photo." He waited as I went and found a black jumper for background and took the photo.  It has taken me 19 years to finally give it a proper home in a scrapbook!!! Now this layout is not really about the roses - it is more than that.   The photo shows my Dad's strong and caring hands and that is even more important given that he passed away Easter Saturday 8 years ago aged 87. It was a cold and misty day on 19th June as we ventured into The Cape Breton Highlands National Park.  One of stops was at this bog and out we went for a walk along the broadwalk.  I love all these photos.  I sprayed green glimmer mist onto one arrow from 6 x 6 stencil Arrows (the others I covered with waste paper so as not to spray onto them as well) from The Crafters Workshop. I cut away the top of the arrow to fit over the photo.   The result - well it seemed to fit with the foggy photos. The journalling says - "a 0.3 mile walk loop between Mackenzie Mountain and French Lake. A typical highlands bog environment with pitcher plants, sun dews and orchids.  Moose tend to frequent the area but we did not see any." BUT WE DID SEE A FROG IN THE BOG IN THE FOG!!! And I have a new camera and I will be taking it out and shooting photos this week.  Here is the photo by itself and you will see the frog more clearly I hope. ...

This layout was inspired by an article by Georgina Heald "Layer upon Layer" in scrap365 magazine Aug/Sept 2013 p50-52.. This layout features Collage layering and it is a great way to use up old paper scraps, however I diverted from this and used co-ordinating papers from a Kaisercraft range. First cut out strips of paper of different widths(I used at least 6 papers) then weave them to form a grid (now unfortunately you cannot see my weaving as I had a 6" x 8" photo), secure them to background patterned paper, and then apply Gesso all over the papers. You can see some of the original paper colours in the triangle shapes.  This is a good way of softening your background.  For me as I was wearing predominately pink so it bought the colours more into line.  Below is a close up of the paper strips after Gesso applied and dried before adding embellishments.
