Stamps Ahead

Here is a fun and glittery card that I designed for the class I lead.  Check out my glittery fingernail as well!!! Just could not crop that out!!! For this card I used a very old Stampin' Up! set called Circle Circus, I recently purchased this from a friend who was destashing.   I wanted the card to have a more contemporary look so I have also used Confetti Plate die from Celebrations by Richard Garay for Spellbinders, and the sentiment comes from Richard Garay Make Amazing Happen collection.    I played around with colours and ultimately decided on this soft blue.  Add some old silver metallic thread (from my machine embroidery days) and pearls and the card is finished off.    I love it, the ladies loved it and I hope you my readers do as well. I have been busy designing cards for classes I have been leading at two community groups over the past two weeks.   Here are just a sample of some of the cards created. Several of the ladies in one of the groups are elderly and have trouble with their hands so I kept the cards quite simple - I pre-cut the shapes prior to the class. These cards are an adaptation of cards in previous post - I substituted the Impasto (as it would take too long to dry in a 2 hour time-frame) and went with random misting and misting using Stampin'Up! (SU)  stencils - stars and stripes.  The stars I die cut from Sizzix Framelits and the squares from Spellbinders Nestabilities.  This card was one of many made by participants in one of the classes for donation to Australian Troops overseas. Don't you just love finding new techniques?  I do and last night I found this great technique over on the Spellbinders Blog .  Now today the sun is shining brightly in Sydney and it was difficult to photo - these cards actually have a lot of shimmer and shine. I have recently become attached to idea of mixed media work in my scrapbook layouts and these cards are certainly meeting some of the criteria for mixed media.  Technique: 1. Scrape a layer of Impasto onto the card and spritz with shimmer Smooch Spritz. I used a red and silver as I had in mind making Christmas cards. 2. Let this dry - for me it was overnight 3. Using Spellbinders Nestabilities square die and Sizzlet star die cut out shapes from paper in 3 sizes.  4. Take the little set of papers to the sewing machine and sew them with a straight stitch. Leave ends dangling.  I could have stitched straight onto the card. 5. I have been asked to teach tomorrow, Friday, at a Community Craft Group.  I have designed the following cards for the attendees to make. The first card is a variation on the card I made for my brother's 60th birthday.  Inside there is a pocket for a gift card or cash. They can either add a number or put on a Happy Birthday Flag.  I like to give participants a choice to make a card suitable for them. The next card uses punched circles and various embellishments. They can make in a variety of colours. For each class I teach I like to introduce a tag of some sort, I usually do this at the beginning of a class and is a good fill in waiting for latecomers. I was inspired to create this tag from an article I saw in a magazine and the stamp set was a free set that came in a Papercraft Magazine. I used the large Spellbinders Scalloped Tag die to make the tag shape.  Thank you for looking. 

Yesterday I purchased a new die - Spellbinders Filigree Vase and just had to try it.  This card is for The Lollipop Ladies current challenge of Sour Cola Bottles with glitter twist. The Filigree Vase reminded me of the bottles. I used my Cuttlebug and cut out the bottom vase shape in silver glitter paper (it does not show up clearly in the photo) and used brown cardstock for the filigree overlay and a piece of Kaisercraft paper cut out strategically at a spray of flowers. I gave this card to my cousin and her new husband for their holiday - congratulations to Sandra and Peter.
