A challenge that was really a challenge!!!

I am participating in a challenge over at Soul Scrappers, where the participants are all sent the same bundle of items, see below.   I must admit that when I got my envelope (see tucked behind with the USA stamps, they were not required to be included in the layout) I was not gushing over with ideas, so I let them stand for a while. The angel sticker really stumped me - as it is not an image I would usually select and use and on my layouts.
This weekend, I attended a scrapbooking retreat and during the week I prepared the selection ready to put on a layout - at that stage I still had no firm idea of what I would be doing!!!!.   I got out my distress paints and went to town colouring everything either pink or blue or even a mixture of pink and blue. I had found an old photo back from in the days when they would colour photos-I have no idea of who these girls are, the photo was in a suitcase of old photos and memories I received when my uncle passed away many years ago.  I would say it is circa 1950's.
Here is what I created this weekend.  I used all the items supplied.
What surprised me the most was that when I used distress ink and water on the vellum, it rolled of its own accord so I ran with that idea turning them into tubes before adhering to my layout.  If  you have read above you will see that I had great difficulty in deciding what to do with the angel sticker - should I paint it another colour or should I leave out altogether???  I decided to add texture paste to it and the image of the black and white face image (look closely and you will also see that I coloured her with pink as well). I hope that this softened both images.
Here is a close up of the rolled vellum:
It was fun creating this layout.  I decided title the layout - Traditional to reference the girls dressed in their Sunday Best.
Thank you for looking,   Margaret :)
ps More layouts that I completed during the weekend to follow.

Hi Margaret. I left you a comment, but I'm not sure if it took or if it just doesn't appear until you approve it. I'll be sure to leave a comment on your page at Soul. Thanks for participating in my challenge and for blogging about it. Your experience was fun to read.
