Words

This is my layout for April Challenge over at ARTastic. Got a bit creative styling this in a camellia tree.
We were to be inspired by this artwork by Josh Miels.  The criteria was to use TYPOGRAPHY on your work.
Now how did I get to my layout.  Please read through to the end of this rather longish post.
  • First some research into Typography was done.  An on-line dictionary describes as the art of or process of printing with type; the work of setting and arranging types and printing from them; the general character or appearance of printed matter.  Further research showed that handwritten typography was acceptable.
  • I was drawn to how the wording on the inspiration photo and how it appeared to almost run down the image.  Could I accomplish this look using mixed media?
  • One evening as I reading a book I had borrowed from local library "Mixed Media Revolution" by Darlene Olivia McElroy & Sandra Duran Wilson I was taken with a suggestion on page 61 to cut work into strips or sections vertical or horizontal. See page below.  I might add that at 1am I got up and headed to my studio I mean kitchen to start creating.
  • Ah, this reminded me of my patchwork days when I loved to make strip patchwork - so off I went to find two pieces of patterned paper.  Here is what I found.  Paper with words and paper with stripes.   I cut the word paper into strips and using Jo Sonja's texture paste adhered the strips to the stripe paper and gave it a good coat of the texture paste before heading back to bed!
  • The next day I put out a word on Facebook for my friends to give me their current favourite word - not really sure of what I would be doing with them when I got them (to be honest I had another idea for these words but it just did not work out).
  • Yes, inspiration today - use these words on the spaces on my layout, seen here. Thankful; hope; blessed; serendipity; OH LA LA; memories; family; hello; blessed; gratitude; epic; eternity; courage; home; awesome; fulfilment; optimism; freedom; orange; Constantinople; peace; serendipity; happiness; inspiring; contented.    Thank you, my friends, for fantastic words.  I added some extra words including life is beautiful alright!. This photograph has been turned on its side so that you can see inspirational words provided.
  • The photograph (taken at Baddeck in Canada) I loved and I finally found a way to do justice to it and the fact that words can and do inspire us.
Thank you to my friends for contributing such beautiful words.
  • Quite separate to this layout I have been making items to donate to my sister's church fete and I  made these inspirational stones using rubon's from my stash.  The stones are from around my garden and a couple from some beach walks.  Top left says "Faith" just did not photograph too well due to light. I applied a fixative to top of stones so that rubons don't rub off.
     Thanks for looking, Margaret :)
