"Hug a tree day"

This layout was completed for a challenge over at Pixels and Paper Challenge Blog - the inspiration photo is below with the added criteria of anything goes but tell us how you were inspired by the photo.....so here goes my entry.
AUGUST inspiration ...
On seeing the challenge picture, I immediately remembered that I had photos that I had of my sister hugging a tree in Melbourne city earlier this year. The colours reminded me of the knitted and crocheted installation on the trees. Apparently when I checked Google today there is a tree hugging day on 20th March - who knew!!!  This was our hug a tree day and it was not 20th March!!!
about.com advise hugging trees is a feel-good experience.
This is a close up of the pennants I made to put on my layout.  So how did I make them?
Here are the ingredients. Silks Acrylic Glaze (4 colours used Ginger Peach, Sapphire on Ice, Olive Vine, Plumeria), 100% cotton lace, a cheap paint brush and a non-stick craft sheet or similar. Put dabs of Silks onto craft sheet, wet the lace and place on craft sheet, using a wet brush paint on each colour randomly - hint wash brush after each colour added or they will mix into a brown mush. Allow to dry -  you can speed it up with a heat gun if required.  Then I cut the lace into pennant shape and I applied Fray stop glue to sides to stop fraying (in hindsight I probably did not need to do this step).  I threaded the individual shapes to a silk ribbon thread and applied to layout).
I also had a tree hugging experience on my recent holiday -  a great big old bur oak tree near Colombia, Missouri.  Layout to come at a later date.
That great big old bur oak tree - over 300 years old.  Magnificient.
Thank you for looking and if you get an opportunity shortly, go out and hug a tree.

This is a delightful page, Margaret. I love your banners, and thank you for adding how you made them. I have some of the Silks in my stash but haven't tried them on fibres/ fabric... will certainly be doing this technique now! Thank you for joining in at Pixels and Paper. I hope we see more of your art. Cheers, Di
